主讲人简介/Biography:

Dr. Wen WANG received his bachelor’s degree in biology in 1989 from Wuhan University, and later his Master and PhD degree from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1992 and 1996. After that, he worked as Postdoc Scholar and Research Associate at the Chicago University until 2002. Dr. Wang is now the Professor at the Northwestern Polytechnical University.

Dr. Wang has long-term research interests in Evolutionary Genomics and has been well recognized in his field. Dr. Wang has published 43 peer-reviewed papers as corresponding and first author, and co-authored other 30 papers. His work has in total been cited more than 6,500 times. Dr. Wang was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2004, and as the Chief Principal Investigator of the 973 Program in 2007 and 2012. In 2012, he also won the second prize of State Natural Science Award as the first accomplisher. He is the Executive Director of The Genetics Society of China and the Director of Animal Genetics Committee of Genetics Society of China. Dr. Wang also sits in the editorial board of SCIENTIA SINICA Vitae, Science China Press.


讲座摘要/Abstract:


长期以来宏观进化(macro-evolution)和微观进化(micro-evolution)研究之间一直存在着鸿沟。上世纪初现代遗传学兴起后,进化研究更多是微观领域的研究,讨论基因频率在种群中的渐变规律,但往往难以解析多姿多彩生物性状革新进化的遗传基础。比如,对于反刍动物这一不仅在科学上有着极为重要特征性状(如多室胃和角),也是人类农业文明家畜物种的最重要来源类群,其进化的遗传基础就一直是谜团。为解决这类问题,我们提出了进化系统生物学(eGPS),旨在利用多层次组学数据,大尺度跨物种阐释动物复杂性状的遗传基础和成因。

There has been a huge gap between the researches of Macro-evolution and Micro-evolution. Since the rise of modern genetics early last century, evolutionary research has been focused on microscopic field to understand the gradual change of gene frequency in populations. This research perspective, however, is often difficult to analyze the genetic basis of the evolution of versatile biological traits. For example, as one of the most diverse groups of mammals, the evolutionary genetics of ruminants has been a mystery for very long time. In order to tackle kind of questions, we propose the concept of Evolutionary Genotype-Phenotype Systems Biology (eGPS), which aims to use multi-dimensional omics data to dissect the genetic basis of the complex traits in animals.
